Apple to Brave the Social Networking Frontier?

According to Harry McCracken of Technologizer, there’s a rumor going around the web that Apple is looking to add new social features to iTunes. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to those already familiar with the Nike+ devices that allow avid joggers to quantify their exercise routine to be shared with others around the world, but it’ll sure make things interesting if we’re not just talking about sweat and music.

What I think is most interesting is the point made by McCracken that,

“All the apps in iLife, from iPhoto to iMovie to Garage Band, are about creating stuff. When people create stuff, they want to tell their friends about it. So it might well make sense for iLife to add an application–let’s call it iSocial–that serves as a central hub for telling friends, family, and random strangers about things you’ve created and put on the Web (as well as music you’re enjoying) via the major social networks.”

It looks like we’ll have to wait until the next update of iLife to find out. Unfortunately, the next update doesn’t have a definitive timetable.

iSocial huh? iLikeit!
